Status of Alimony Reform in New Jersey

On Monday, February 10, 2014, the Assembly Judiciary met and voted to release AJR-32, which creates an alimony law study commission.
The resolution of the Judiciary Committee now moves to the Assembly for approval.
The N.J. State Bar Association and other local Bar Associations as well as five (5) other groups testified in support of the resolution.
It is not yet known how alimony will be affected by the recent Bill but what is known is that this is a very important issue for parties who have divorced or will be divorced in New Jersey.
Some critics say the N.J. Alimony Law is a relic of the past and others say the current N.J. Alimony Law needs some fine-tuning.
The last significant revision was made in the late 1990’s, so it will be important to see what will become of the Alimony
